Who AM I ?
Born in the Windy City, Chicago, African-American, fashion designer, Matthew Joseph Williams has already begun to make a footprint in the fashion world.
At the age of 14, Matthew took one sewing class and then launched a custom t-shirt business - a skill which began his interest in fashion. He soon became the designer for school pep rally tees.
But his passion for fashion didn’t stop there. Deeply involved in one of Chicago’s prominent, youth performing arts organizations, South Shore Drill Team, Matthew created exquisite, eye-catching uniforms for performances and parades.
Over the years, Matthew honed in on his designs, pattern-making and sewing skills and then his brand, “The Freezer”, was born, now rebranded as Matthew Joseph. “I get my inspiration from shapes around me. Every line and angle has the potential to be transformed into a silhouette.” Complimenting silhouettes and vibrant evening wear and suits, Matthew Joseph pushes the boundaries in fashion.
Matthew’s vision is to create a brand that accentuates all shapes and sizes that as a result will cause women and men to feel confident, empowered while comfortable and fashion forward.
Williams has curated a number of collections which have been showcased at LA Fashion Week, the Cleveland Museum of Art. Matthew recently studied in Paris to expand his knowledge and skillset to Haute Couture fashions. He has recently launched his newest collection, “No Space to Breathe”.
